Residents of Akure, the capital city of Ondo State, found themselves amidst chaotic scenes on Monday as they engaged in widespread looting of a branded food truck, News About Nigeria reports.

The incident unfolded when the truck, laden with food items, experienced a mechanical fault at a popular junction known as the cultural centre along the Ondo express road.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the truck, adorned with branding featuring the name and logo of President Bola Tinubu, drew the attention of passersby and residents.

Despite efforts to repair the mechanical issue, the truck was soon overrun by a crowd eager to access its contents.

Reports indicate that the looters, comprising petty traders, artisans, drivers, and commercial motorcyclists, swiftly descended upon the truck, seizing and looting its cargo of grains, including rice and garri.

Footage circulated later depicted remnants of the food items strewn along the roadside.

Social commentator Ibidapo Adelusi condemned the actions of the residents, labeling it as a crime against fellow citizens.

Adelusi urged law enforcement agencies, particularly the police, to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

The incident underscores the pressing issues of hunger and hardship faced by many in the community, yet highlights the necessity for maintaining law and order even amidst challenging circumstances.
