The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dauda Biu, has called for a proper investigation into the accident that led to the deaths of 13 people in Kogi State.
The call was contained in a statement signed by the FRSC spokesperson, Jonas Agwu, on Monday.
In the statement, Agwu noted that the drivers involved in the crash will be properly prosecuted following the report from the investigation.
According to Agwu, the prosecution of the drivers would be carried out in collaboration with the Nigeria Bar Association and the state judiciary.
News About Nigeria reported that the crash, which occurred on Sunday, involved a total of four vehicles, comprising two Dangote trucks, one Sharon bus, and one motorbike.
One of the Dangote trucks had a failed brake and crashed into three stationary vehicles, including a bus carrying 12 passengers.
The crash resulted in a fire that killed the 12 passengers on the bus and the motorbike rider.
The statement read, “On the whole, the crash involved 15 people, comprising eight male adults and three female adults, three male children and one female child. Unfortunately, 13 persons, comprising six male adults, three male children, three female adults, and one female child, were killed, while the remaining two victims were rescued by FRSC operatives without injuries.”
Reacting to the tragic incident in the statement, Biu noted that the drivers responsible for the accident will not go scot-free.
“They are going to be prosecuted in accordance with the provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulations 2012, and those found guilty will bear the consequences of their actions,” Agwu added.
