The Keana Local Government Council, Nasarawa State, has stated that it will leave no stone unturned in apprehending and prosecuting the killers of farmers in the council, News About Nigeria reports.
The Chairman of the Council, Sanusi Abdul Giza, stated this while speaking at an emergency meeting with security personnel, traditional rulers, other critical stakeholders, and representatives of all the ethnic groups of Kadarko Chiefdom in the palace of Osokadarko on Thursday.
He noted that the prosecution and punishment of the killers, when found, will serve as a deterrent to other criminals in the area.
While describing the killing of innocent farmers who were recently attacked on their farms as unfortunate, condemnable, and unacceptable, he maintained that such killings would not be cordoned off by his administration.
He, however, noted that it has become necessary to address the security challenges bedevilling the area and promised to put more measures in place to ensure that the lives and properties of the residents are secured.
Empathising with members of the families affected by the criminal act, Giza warned residents not to take the laws into their own hands by seeking self-vengeance but asked them to allow the government handle the situation.
“All the ethnic groups in the area must live in peace with one another and shun mischief makers looking for opportunities to cause mayhem.
“The local government, along with security agencies, are working out modalities to fish out the bad elements in the locality,” he stated.
Speaking also, the Senior Special Assistant and SA to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Education and Politics, Comrade James Ali Manza, and Ibrahim Bido expressed concern over the ugly incident, and assured the people that the state government would not tolerate any act capable of causing disunity in the state.
