How Man Slumped, Died During Fight In Kwara - Police

The Kwara state police command revealed on Monday that a man identified as Usman Abubakar died during a fight that occurred at Isale Koko, Ojagboro area, Ilorin in Ilorin East Local Government Area of the state, News About Nigeria reports.

According to the police, the tragic incident that happened last Wednesday and claimed the life of the deceased was a result of the combat between him (the deceased) and another man identified as one Omotosho Jimoh of the Elekoyangan area, Oke-Suna, Ilorin.

The police made the revelation in a statement released by the command’s public relations officer, Ejire Adeyemi, who also revealed that Jimoh, who was in a fight with the deceased, is now at large following his death.

According to the police, the tragic incident was the result of a minor issue that degenerated into combat and later led to the death of Usman.

In the statement, the police noted that the incident was reported by the father of the deceased, Mr. Adebayo Ahmed.

The statement partly reads, “It was reported that on the same day, around 1930hrs, Usman engaged in hand-to-hand combat with one Omotosho Jimoh of Elekoyankan Area, Oke-suna, Ilorin, over a minor issue. Tragically, during the altercation, Usman Abubakar slumped and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

“Presently, the suspect, Omotosho Jimoh, is at large. The Kwara State Police Command has initiated a preliminary investigation into the matter, and efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect and ascertain the full circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.”

The police spokesperson also revealed that, following the distress call from the father of the deceased, the police immediately rushed to the scene of the crime, where necessary documentation was carried out.

He, however, noted that the family of the deceased refused to release the body for autopsy, insisting on burial according to Islamic rites.

Ejire-Adeyemi also assured the family and the public that efforts were being made to bring the perpetrators to justice.
