Lawmakers Hail Tinubu's Move To Tackle Insecurity

Two former Lagos lawmakers, Mr. Dipo Olorunrinu and  Sir Jude Idimogu, have commended President Bola Tinubu for his efforts to tackle insecurity in the country, News About Nigeria reports.

While speaking in an interview with newsmen on Thursday in Lagos, the lawmakers noted that President Bola Tinubu has displayed courage and determination to fight terrorism by listing alleged financiers of terrorism in the country.

Recall that the Federal Government uncovered the identities of 15 entities, including nine individuals and six Bureau De Change operators and firms, allegedly involved in terrorism financing on Wednesday.

The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit reportedly disclosed the alleged financiers in an email, entitled: “Designation of Individuals and Entities for March 18, 2024.”

Reacting to this, Olorunrinu, who represented Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly from 2015 to 2019, stated that the President has shown himself as a courageous leader with this step.

He maintained that the President needed the appreciation of Nigerians, stating that the country needs more of the boldness displayed by President Bola Tinubu to uncover the people afflicting our people.

According to him, the country has lost so many innocent citizens and members of the armed forces in the attacks on the nation, adding that huge resources that should have been used for the development of the country have been taken away from the nation

“We must commend the President for the great step. We need more of this boldness to uncover the people afflicting our people.

“We have lost so many innocent citizens and members of the armed forces in these attacks on the nation.

“Can we talk about the huge resources this has taken away from the nation that should have been used for the development of the country?” he stated.

Similarly, Idimogu, who represented Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II at the Lagos Assembly from 2015 to 2023, said the step showed that there would be an end to terrorism soon in the country.

He, however, urged the government to disclose those behind the companies listed whether registered or not, noting that Nigerians have a right to know those behind the companies allegedly financing terrorism.

“Mentioning the companies without the shareholders is not good enough; we should know the owners and they should be prosecuted and shamed.

“No matter how big or mighty, we should uncover them, no one is above the law,” he said.
