The immediate former governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, was laid to rest today in his country home in the Owo Local Government Area of the state.
News About Nigeria reported that Akeredolu died in Germany on December 27, 2023, after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer.
On Friday, President Bola Tinubu led governors, members of the National Assembly, and other dignitaries to pay their final respects to Akeredolu.
Present at the burial were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, and governors of Osun, Ekiti, Kwara, Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Enugu, Bayelsa, Benue, Anambra, and Delta states.
Also, the Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Abdullahi Ganduje, chieftains of the party, and other dignitaries were present at the burial ceremony held at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Imola, Owo.
Speaking at the burial ceremony, President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, stated that Akeredolu’s demise was a great loss to Nigeria.
He further noted that Akeredolu would be forever remembered for his selfless service to humanity, the people of Ondo, and Nigeria at large.
The President also added that today was not a day to mourn but to remember and celebrate Akeredolu’s life, because he was able to serve God and humanity to the best of his ability when he was alive.
“Seasons come and seasons go; today is a day of remembrance, a day of celebration of life, to God and humanity, today is a day to pay our respect,” he stated.
Tinubu further encouraged the family of the Late former governor to not be dismayed as their father while he was on earth lived a good life.
He also tasked Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to continue the good works and legacies of Akeredolu in Ondo State.
