President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday directed that a sum of N342 million be paid to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) as an outstanding electricity bill by the State House.

The President’s order is coming in 24 hours after the reconciliation of accounts between the State House Management and AEDC.

News About Nigeria reported that the AEDC announced that the Presidential Villa and other federal parastatals were owed on Monday.

According to the statement released yesterday, AEDC revealed that the Presidential Villa owed the sum of N923.9 million, while the Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), being supervised by Nyesom Wike owed the sum of N7.57 billion.

They had also listed the office of the National Security Adviser as owing the sum of N95.9 billion, while the Ministry of Power, headed by Adebayo Adelabu, is indebted to the tune of N78 million.

The AEDC  also revealed that other MDAs have not paid their bills in a long period, and all of them, together with the aforementioned, that refuse to pay up their debts will be disconnected in 10 days starting Monday.

In response to their notice, President Tinubu, in a statement titled ‘President Tinubu directs payment of State House electricity bill,” which was signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the state house outstanding bill is N342.35 million as against the N923 million debt claim by the AEDC.

“Contrary to the AEDC’s initial claim of N923 million in debt in paid advertorial in newspapers, the State House’s outstanding bill is N342.35 million,” the statement partly reads.

The President also assured the AEDC that the debt would be paid before the end of this week.

He further tasked other indebted ministries, departments, and agencies to also clear their electricity bills with immediate effect.
