Two Arrested Over Vigilante's Death In Lagos

The Nigerian Police Force has urged Nigerians to be more tolerating of each other and live in peace, News About Nigeria reports.

The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, gave this call while speaking at the weekend during the Rotary Club of Mende Midtown Peace Talk held in Maryland, Lagos.

He noted that the lack of tolerance on the part of Nigerians has led to a lot of disputes and altercations that could have been avoided.

While speaking on the theme, “Peacebuilding and conflict resolution in a multi-ethnic society like Nigeria”, SP Hundeyin said: “As a people with diverse heritage, there is a high propensity for conflict. So, we need to be tolerant; we are not new to the wanton destruction that has occurred due to religious intolerance.”

He maintained that the attitude of tolerance does not make one a fool but shows that the person is mature, adding that no one knows how the end of a thing will be, only the beginning.

He maintained that the new slogan that was adopted by Nigerians in 2024, “No Gree For Anybody,” is not a sign of tolerance and therefore remains a dangerous one.

He, however, noted that the level of conflict is more pronounced in Nigerian society than anywhere else because of the diversity of the country and its people, adding that the various sets of laws in the country, including the criminal code in the south and the penal code in the north, all show the level of the country’s diversity.

He, therefore, urged the people to find appropriate ways to live together and to manage our diversity.
