President Bola Tinubu has officially launched the construction of 3,112 pilot housing projects in the Karsana area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the Renewed Hope Housing Initiative, News About Nigeria reports.

The estate is a part of a larger scheme that involves a public-private partnership between a group of corporations committed to building 100,000 housing units around the country and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

In the first phase, the Ministry of Dwelling and Urban Development plans to construct 50,000 housing units, including various kinds of houses.

The project is funded by public-private partnerships, federal mortgage bank of Nigeria support, and budgetary allocations.

In his keynote speech on Thursday, Tinubu said that the responsibility of the government is to uphold citizens’ fundamental right to housing.

This event marked Tinubu’s first public appearance after returning from a two-week private visit to Paris.

He commended the ministry’s work in carrying out the Renewed Hope agenda for urban development and housing.

He said, “I listened to the minister say they are committed to transforming Nigeria into a giant construction site of housing units. He has shown that he is an exemplary champion who understands how to use housing as a catalyst for economic resurgence and national development. We must all be positive about our country and work together so that we can win together.”

The president also praised the Housing Ministry for initiating PPP arrangements to incorporate the private sector, highlighting the important role the private sector can play in assisting in the realisation of a future of which Nigerians can be proud.
