King Charles III Diagnosed With Cancer, Buckingham Palace Confirms

Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that King Charles III has been diagnosed with a form of cancer following a recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, News About Nigeria reports.

The statement released by the palace did not provide specific details about the type and stage of the cancer.

According to the statement released, the king underwent a medical procedure for an enlarged prostate last month, during which a separate issue of concern was noted.

This led to subsequent diagnostic tests and the identification of cancer.

Both King Charles and Catherine, Princess of Wales, were discharged from a private London clinic last week after their respective medical procedures.

While Buckingham Palace did not disclose the specifics of the cancer diagnosis, it mentioned that the king has initiated a schedule of regular treatments.

Doctors have advised him to postpone public-facing duties during this period.

Despite this, King Charles will continue to undertake state business and official paperwork as usual.

The statement said that the king wanted to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation about his condition and expressed gratitude to his medical team for swift intervention.

King Charles remains positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.

“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible,” the statement read in part.

The announcement comes months after King Charles III ascended to the throne in May 2023, following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September 2022.

The royal ceremony was attended by the royal family, thousands of British and Commonwealth troops, and numerous world leaders.
