FCT Residents Groan Over Water Scarcity

Residents of the Karu area in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have groaned over the lingering scarcity of water in the state, News About Nigeria reports.

They registered their displeasure with the situation while speaking with newsmen on Monday.

According to them, the lingering scarcity has been ongoing for three months and counting, and the government seems to be doing nothing to resolve the issues.

One of the residents, Mr. Musa Nuhu, a laundry worker at Karu, complained bitterly, saying that he is losing a lot of customers as they complain of the increase in the cost of laundry services, adding that this is also affecting his business.

He stated, however, that although he sympathised with them, the current situation of the country, coupled with the water scarcity, leaves him no choice but to increase the prices of his services.

“We are hardly patronised now because customers are complaining of the increase in prices.” He said.

Another resident, identified as Modester Ngwu, who is a hair saloon owner in Karu village, lamented how the lack of sufficient water has posed a great challenge to her business.

She stated that it is becoming challenging because she previously didn’t need to buy water, but with the scarcity, she now buys water and finds it hard to break even in business.

“Customers won’t agree to pay extra money for my services, and this makes it difficult for me to break even,” she said.

The FCT water board, however, noted that the water scarcity was caused by a damaged pipeline feeding a major water treatment plant in Usuma Dam, Bwari Area Council of the FCT.
