2024 Grammy: Watch Burna Boy’s Performance [Video]

Burna Boy made history by performing at the Grammy Awards for the first time, becoming the first Afro-fusion artiste to grace the stage.

According to the press release distributed by his representatives before Grammy night, he is the first Afro-fusion artiste to do so.

While welcoming Burna Boy on stage, the South African host of the night, Trevor Noah, playfully teased Burna Boy, saying, “You know people say Afrobeats is new and personally, growing up in South Africa, I would get Afrobeats all the time for my mom every time I came home past my curfew.”

During his lively performance, Burna Boy showcased his culture with energetic dancers and a backing band dressed in green, which reminds one of the Nigerian flag.

The singer wore a stylish red quilted jacket, gray pants, and a snapback, exuding confidence and joy on the stage.

His performances included his hit singles ‘City Boys’ and ‘Sittin’ On Top of the World’.

He surprised the audience by bringing out Brandi, known for her 1998 hit ‘Top of the World’ with Ma$e, whose song is sampled in Burna Boy’s track.

Brandi, making a return to the stage since the ‘90s, delivered smooth vocals in a black trench coat and stylish clear glasses, complemented by striking scarlet boots.

To add to the excitement, 21 Savage, featured in the remix of ‘Sittin’ On Top of the World’, joined the performance in an all-red outfit, marking his Grammy stage debut.

Meanwhile, News About Nigeria reported that Burna Boy’s four nominations, which included Best Global Music Album, Best African Music Performance, Best Melodic Rap Performance, and Best Global Music Performance, all ended without a win.

In the Best Global Music Album category, Burna Boy’s album ‘I Told Them’ faced defeat against world fusion band Shakti’s ‘This Moment’.

Other Nigerian artistes who were nominated, including Davido, Olamide, Ayra Starr, and Asake, all failed to secure Grammy wins.
