The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, has called on President Bola Tinubu to step aside if he finds the responsibility of leading Nigeria too challenging.
Atiku’s statement comes as he criticises Tinubu’s recent private visit to France while the nation battles insecurity.
In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Atiku expressed his concern over the state of the country’s security.
He said that Tinubu was playing the fiddle while Nigeria faced increasing challenges.
He pointed to the recent tragic incident where kidnappers killed a nursing mother and grandmother in Abuja for failing to pay a ransom of N90 million.
“Tinubu is playing fiddle while Nigeria is drowning in the ocean of insecurity. To imagine that the Commander-in-Chief is on a so-called private visit while kidnappers kill a nursing mother and grandmother in Abuja for failing to pay N90m ransom and two monarchs in Ekiti, among other regular tragedies besetting Nigerians,” he tweeted.
Atiku stated that the country requires 24/7 leadership to confront the rising insecurity and a collapsing economy.
In his statement, he said, “If the shoes are too big for Emilokan, he should step aside. Nigeria does not need another Tourist-in-Chief. The country needs 24/7 leadership to confront the pervasive insecurity and collapsing economy.”
News About Nigeria reported that President Tinubu had embarked on a private visit to Paris, France, last Wednesday, as confirmed by his special adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
The statement did not specify the reasons for the visit but mentioned that Tinubu would return to the country in the first week of February 2024.
