Man Seeks Divorce From Wife For Spending Time In Church

A man identified as Mr. Aku Bakari has brought his wife, Mrs. Mary Bakari, before a customary court in Nyanya, seeking a dissolution of marriage on the ground that his wife spends too much time in church, News About Nigeria reports.

Mr. Bakare, a public servant, on Friday, dragged his wife to court, lamenting that she has abandoned her duties as a wife and mother and now spends all of her time in the church, neglecting her family.

“My wife no longer has time for me and our children; she is always going to church. Sometimes she goes to church on Friday and sleeps there until Sunday evening,” he lamented.

He stated that she was no longer concerned about the well-being of her family, adding that she did not care if they fed or not.

He noted that he had tried on several occasions to stop his wife from attending church, but all efforts were fruitless.

He further recounted how their marriage had been blissful until 2010, when he started to observe strange behaviours in her, including her mode of dressing.

According to him, she stopped wearing earrings and necklaces, claiming that those things belonged to the devil.

He stated that his wife also stopped attending the family church, which was the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria, LCCN, and started to attend a different church, where he maintained she was being brainwashed.

“I told her to stop, but she refused. It is on this account that I wish to divorce her,” he lamented.
