British Council Increases IELTS Fee Again

With the overwhelming increase in the number of Nigerians leaving the country in search of ‘greener pastures,’ the British Council in Nigeria has announced an increase in the fees for the English Language Testing System (IELTS) examinations.

According to the Council, from February 1, 2024, applicants will be required to pay the sum of N139,000 for both the Computer Academic and General Training Modules as against the 107,500 payment.

In the notice of the fee increment shared on the council’s official website, they explained that the increase in the fee is due to the rising costs associated with conducting the examinations.

They further noted that the increment is geared towards helping them conduct the examinations properly without any hitch whatsoever.

The notice on the fee increment shared on the council’s official website partly reads, “We would like to inform you that there has been a review of our IELTS fees. The new price list of the IELTS range of tests offered by the British Council will be effective for registrations on or after February 1, 2024.”

In the notice, the British Council also noted that the adjustment in the fee is so they can continue to offer the diverse range of services and comprehensive support they give to Nigerians who are striving to achieve their language proficiency goals.

While reiterating its commitment to delivering value and excellence to Nigerians, the British Council expressed gratitude to applicants and also urged them to comply with the changes made.

News About Nigeria reports that this current increase in the IELTS fee makes it the second time in the past five months that the British Council has increased the price.

In September 2023, the council adjusted the examination fee from N90,000 to the current N107,500, which would be seized on January 31, 2024.

The IELTS is widely recognised globally, and it is designed to help people achieve their ambitions of working, studying, or moving to a country where English is spoken.
