Fashola Denies Receiving Federal Benefits, Says Pension Is ₦577,000

Babatunde Fashola (SAN), the former governor of Lagos State, has revealed that he receives a monthly pension of ₦577,000 from the state, News About Nigeria reports.

Fashola made this disclosure during an interview with Arise Television on Saturday, addressing misconceptions about the extent of his benefits and clarifying that there are no federal benefits attached.

In response to questions about the sustainability of the pension, Fashola stated,

“That is all I get with no federal benefit. I don’t know how long this will last. And in spite of all the stories that we get several billions, I have come out to deny that repeatedly.”

He further stated that the monthly pension continues to be disbursed, but he remains uncertain about how long it will continue.

Babatunde Fashola served two terms as the governor of Lagos State from May 29, 2007, to May 29, 2015, after which he assumed the position of Minister of Power, Works and Housing from 2015 to 2019.

Subsequently, he served as the Minister of Works and Housing from 2019 to 2023.

Responding to inquiries about his potential role in the administration led by President Bola Tinubu, Fashola said that he does not require a title to contribute to public service.

He said this to newsmen at Lagos State University, Ojo, in September last year where he delivered a keynote address at the institution’s fifth research and innovation fair.

He acknowledged the limited positions available in the government and stressed the importance of citizens playing their roles without necessarily holding official titles.

Fashola highlighted the need for collective efforts in building the next generation of leaders.
