SERAP Urges FCT Minister Wike To Withdraw Threat Against Beggars

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that the people working as informants for kidnappers have been apprehended, News About Nigeria reports.

The revelation was made during a town hall meeting held with the Gwagwalada area council chairman, traditional rulers, security operatives, and residents in Abuja.

Although the exact number of people arrested and the location of the arrests were not specified, Wike assured residents of the Gwagwalada area not to panic.

He pledged improvements in the security situation within the FCT in the coming days.

Wike, who is the former governor of Rivers State, urged the Commissioner of Police to promptly establish two additional police divisions in the Gwagwalada area council.

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to address the rising incidents of kidnapping and enhance security measures in the region.

This marks the second visit by Minister Nyesom Wike as part of a series of area council visits aimed at engaging with residents and providing viable solutions to curb insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory.

In recent times, the FCT has experienced a surge in kidnapping cases, causing heightened concern among residents about their safety.

The situation reached a critical point on January 5, 2024, when Alhaji Mansoor Al-Kadriya and his six children were kidnapped from their home at Zuma 1, on the outskirts of Bwari town in Abuja.

The incident resulted in the shooting of two policemen.

While the kidnappers released Al-Kadriya to raise a N60 million ransom for the release of his daughters, tragedy struck as one of the siblings, Nabeeha, a 400-level student at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, was killed by the bandits.

The other five sisters, including Najeebah and Nadherah, remain in captivity.
