Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has called on Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and security agencies to provide answers to crucial questions regarding the explosion that rocked Ibadan on Tuesday evening.

News About Nigeria reported that Governor Makinde had issued a statement attributing the explosion to illegal miners.

In response, Sowore raised several questions in a series of tweets on Wednesday via his X handle, demanding more information about the incident.

Sowore’s tweets, titled “Posers For The Governor Of Oyo State #seyimakinde And Security Agencies Regarding The Deadly #IbadanBlast Last Night,” included the following queries:

Sowore questioned who the illegal miners were, what they were mining, and why they possessed such powerful explosives.

The activist asked if there were any explosives dealers known to security agencies in a high-brow neighbourhood in Ibadan, raising concerns about prior knowledge and inaction.

Sowore requested the immediate release of information revealing the identity of the miner responsible for the explosion, including their name and the type of mining activity conducted in Oyo State.

The activist sought clarification on the procedure for mining and using explosives, questioning if the building was rigged with explosives and, if so, why.

Sowore inquired whether the governor or the Oyo State government was aware of mining activities in the Agodi residential area and if the government had approved rock blasting in a residential zone.

Sowore asked for the public position of the Department of State Services (DSS), which is responsible for approving the use of explosives, on the incident.

The explosion occurred on Dejo Oyelese Street in the Bodija area of Ibadan, causing panic among residents.

The National Emergency Management Agency reported that over 20 houses were affected, and search and rescue operations were ongoing.
