Buhari Has Never Interfered In My Govt, We Partnered To Build Nigeria - President Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has said that since he came into power in May 2023, his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, has never interfered in how he runs the affairs of the nation.

News About Nigeria reported that the president said this on Tuesday at the unveiling of two books in honour of former President Buhari by his former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, which are titled: “Working with Buhari (2015 – 2023)” and “Muhammadu Buhari: The Nigerian Legacy  – 2015 – 2023 (Vols 1-5)”, in Abuja.

According to Tinubu, when he assumed office as president, Buhari told him that he would return to his hometown (Daura, in Katsina State) and would never interfere in anything he did but he could reach out to him via phone call whenever he wanted.

Tinubu further stated that, since Buhari handed power over to him, he has consistently partnered with him to build the nation’s democracy instead of interfering.

He also noted that Buhari did not interfere in his choice of people who would make up his cabinet at any point in time.

In his own words, “We’ve partnered to make democracy flourish in Nigeria, thank you. Except when I call him (on the phone) to say, ‘Are you living, are you going to the farm?’, you don’t hear from him (Buhari) either to nominate or intrude in the cabinet or complain about issues.”

The President therefore appreciated his predecessor for allowing him to lead the nation without any form of interference or ‘god-fatherism.’

He also lauded Buhari for being an exceptional leader who, even though he served at a time when Boko Haram took over the North East and when recession had beaten deep into the nation, was still able to serve the people with zeal and unwavering dedication.

President Tinubu also stated that his administration was committed to working on the promises made to Nigerians and would ensure that they put an end to the insecurity that is currently plaguing the country.
