In a now-viral video shared online, a dusty cloud, burning houses, and cars were seen as people scampering around for their safety.
According to reports, the blast affected major places in the city, like Ace mall, Dominos Pizza, KFC, and others.
According to residents, a loud bang was heard around the Agbowo, Sango, Orogun and Bodija areas of the city.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained and there is no official report from the state’s police command as regards the incident and its cause.
Speaking on the blast that rocked the state on Tuesday evening, a student of the University of Ibadan who craved anonymity said, “It is true. We all heard the sound and it was very loud. The cloud is cloudy with smoke. it happened at Bodija and we in the UI area could see the smoke. Even those at Sango and Ojo heard the sound. In fact, we are all in a room scared for our life.”
Also, another resident, in a post shared on his X handle, @shurley_banks tweeted, “I Escaped, I still don’t even know what’s happening here in ibadan but we are safe. All we heard was a massive blast.”
Confirming the incident in a statement shared on its official X handle, the Oyo State Government noted that it was aware of the explosion and also urged residents to remain calm as security agencies are investigating to determine the cause of the explosion.
Many Nigerians have taken to X to express their confusion, as they are unsure of what is going on at the moment.
