Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have killed one robber and arrested three others in the Aguata Local Government Area of the state.
News About Nigeria gathered that the incident happened on Sunday at the Igboukwu community in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State when the suspects came into contact with operatives of the Command at a checkpoint.
The state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, while confirming the incident, disclosed that the suspects had been on their way to an unknown destination in a bus coming from Nnewi before they encountered the Policemen at the checkpoint.
According to him, the gang of four were armed and dangerous and were stopped for a routine check upon getting to the checkpoint.
He noted that one of the hoodlums had alighted when pulled over, pulled a baretta pistol, and was gunned down by the police before he could pull the trigger of his gun.
He added that after a search was conducted on them, a concealed dagger was discovered.
Ikenga further disclosed that two other elderly passengers who boarded the bus were detained for questioning, and the State Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, has ordered that the passengers be released.
He also noted that the State CP, who lauded the vigilance and alertness of the police personnel, directed that the State Criminal Investigation Department take over the case for a thorough investigation to be carried out.
“The command wishes to assure the good people of Anambra State that it will always live up to its responsibility in safeguarding lives and property of all law-abiding citizens in the state,” Ikenga added.
