The Ondo State Council for Islamic Affairs (ODSCIA) on Saturday tasked the governor of the state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, with appointing a Muslim as his deputy.
According to the council’s appeal to the governor, the deputy should be a Muslim in order to foster equity and fairness in the state.
The group made the appeal while affirming the importance of appointing a deputy governor in line with the constitutional provision of governance.
They made the call in a statement issued by the state chairman of the group, Alhaji Akinpelumi Abibullahi.
The ODSCIA also congratulated the state governor on his succeeding the late former Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, describing his transition from deputy governor to acting governor and now governor of Ondo State as a divine agenda.
They also sympathised with the state government on the painful demise of Akeredolu, noting that his death came as a rude shock to everyone.
The group, while praying for the repose of the dead, also prayed that God would give the family of the late governor, the state, and the nation at large the fortitude to bear the tragic loss.
They also prayed for Governor Aiyedatiwa to succeed in his new assignment as governor of Ondo State.
News About Nigeria reported that the former Ondo state governor died on the 27th of December, 2023 in a German hospital after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer.
Following his death, the then acting governor, Aiyedatiwa, was sworn in as the substantial governor of Ondo State on the same day.
