Multichoice Announces It Won't Broadcast AFCON 2023 On DStv SuperSport Channels

Multichoice, the parent company of DStv, has announced that it has not secured the broadcasting rights for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

As a result, the AFCON 2023 matches will not be aired on its SuperSport channels, News About Nigeria reports.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Multichoice explained, “SuperSport Channel will not broadcast the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 scheduled for January 13th–February 11th, 2024, because the channel has not secured the rights to broadcast the tournament.

“However, AFCON 2023 games will be available through our partner broadcast stations on Free to Air (FTA) channels.”

Despite this setback, Multichoice affirmed its commitment to providing football fans across Africa with access to a range of entertainment and football games on the DStv and GOtv platforms.

The company assured viewers that they would still have access to other prestigious competitions, including the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, and the Zambian Super League.

The 34th edition of AFCON is scheduled to kick off on January 13 in Ivory Coast.

Nigeria, a three-time winner, is drawn in Group A alongside the hosts, Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau, and Equatorial Guinea.

In a related development, Multichoice Nigeria introduced festive season discount offers for GOtv customers.

The offers, named ‘Level Up’, ‘Next Level’, ‘Pay Current Get Higher’, and ‘Double Double’, aim to provide existing and disconnected customers with the opportunity to stay connected or reconnect at discounted rates.

The Executive Head of Marketing, MultiChoice Nigeria, Tope Oshunkeye, expressed excitement about the festive season offers, highlighting the various discounts available for customers to enjoy the holiday season content lineup.

Oshunkeye also mentioned the newly introduced GOtv Stream App, which allows customers to livestream their favourite content and download up to 25 items offline.
