Residents of Ondo State held an eighth-day prayer for the late former governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu, who died on December 27, 2023, after battling prostate cancer.
The eight-day prayer for the late governor was done at his residence in the Owo Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday.
According to Richard Olatunde, Chief Press Secretary to the late Governor, in a post on his Facebook page, the prayers for Akeredolu was attended by his family, associates, political followers, and the people of Owo.
The post partly reads, “The eight-day prayer for the late former Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON, was held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. The service was led by Rev. Canon S.B Oladimeji.”
Akeredolu’s Chief of Staff further revealed that during the prayers for his late boss, they also prayed for the former governor’s immediate family and relatives, together with his friends and followers who have stood with his bereaved family at such a time as this.
Olatunde also stated that the outpouring of tributes and shows of love that Akeredolu has received since his death shows that he truly lived and was an exemplary leader who was loved.
He further noted that Akeredolu, in his lifetime, was a man with great love for the people of Ondo and the nation at large.
News About Nigeria reported that the 67-year-old former Ondo State Governor gave up the ghost on December 27, 2023 while seeking medical help in Germany.
Following his death, the state’s acting governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, was on the same day sworn in as substantive governor of Ondo State.
