Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, charged the Federal Government on Wednesday to recognise traditional worshippers in the nation.

He also stated that the Tinubu-led administration must apportion traditional worshippers their deserved responsibilities as they do for adherents of other religions.

Adeleke said this at the Government Secretariat in Abere, the venue of the New Year traditional prayer session organised by the Traditional Religion Worshippers Association of Osun State.

News About Nigeria reported that at the prayer session, the 2024 New Year divine revelations of the Ifa oracle were revealed by its priests.

The Osun state governor, who was represented by his deputy, Kola Adewusi, during the new year prayers, admonished the traditional worshippers to be committed to their religion.

In his words, “Be committed to your religion. Don’t treat your religion with levity. If you fail to be committed to your religion, you will jeopardise its future. If the Federal Government recognises Islam and Christianity, nothing stops it from promoting traditional religion.”

The governor, in his admonition, also charged leaders of different religions to tolerate one another in the interest of peace.

He also tasked them with spreading the message of love, peace, and unity to their followers to build the state and the nation at large.

He further debunked the popular myth that traditional religion is all about ritual killing, noting that the worshippers have nothing to do with ritual killings or crime.

Speaking further, he noted that it is wrong to talk down on any religion, as nothing criminal was done in the traditional prayers that were held today in the state.
