Governors under the Southwest Governor’s Forum on Friday promised to give the late former governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, a befitting burial.
The governors said this when they paid a condolence visit to the family of the late governor at his residence in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
Present at the condolence visit were the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde who led the team of other South-west governors, the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke; Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and the Ekiti State Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji.
Speaking during the visit, the governor through Dapo Abiodun said that to execute their promise to give Akeredolu a befitting burial, they would set up a committee to oversee the burial plan.
The Governors also sympathised with Akeredolu’s widow, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu and his children, stating that they are still in shock that the Chairman, of the South-West Governors’ Forum and the Southern Governors Forum is no more.
They also added that the position that the former Ondo state governor occupied before his tragic demise was one he carried out courageously and fearlessly.
The South-West Governors also prayed for the repose of the soul of Akeredolu and that God Almighty would give his family and the people of Ondo State the fortitude to bear the loss.
News About Nigeria reported that the former Ondo State Governor died on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, after battling with prostate cancer.
The 67-year-old former governor was a one-time President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
