The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State has confirmed that a yet-to-be-identified woman was crushed to death by a truck along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, News About Nigeria reports.
The FRSC spokesperson, Florence Okpe, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, stating that the victim was killed by a truck allegedly belonging to the Dangote group in Ogun State.
She stated that the unfortunate incident took place at Dalemo-Ota, along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, adding that the woman was standing by the roadside when she was crushed by the truck.
According to her, the incident occurred at about 11 p.m. on Thursday, and a total of two people were involved in the accident: one adult male and one adult female.
She noted that the crash is suspected to have been caused by excessive speeding and a mechanical fault, which failed the brake of the Dangote truck, resulting in a female standing on the roadside being hit, adding that the victim died on the spot.
She disclosed that the body of the deceased had been deposited at the Ifo General Hospital morgue.
The Sector Commander of FRSC Ogun State has commiserated with the family of the deceased, promising to carry out an in-depth investigation into the incident.
He also urged drivers to always conduct routine checks on their vehicles and ensure the braking systems are effective before putting them on the road.
He maintained that it was the right and sensible thing to do, as most of these accidents that happen are things that can be avoided.
