President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that he is committed to tackling the issue of out-of-school children in the country, News About Nigeria reports.
The president made this known while receiving members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, stating that the number of children who are out of school is alarming.
Presenting a plan on how he hoped to reduce the number of children who were out of school to the barest minimum, the president stated that more schools would be established and in turn, more teachers would be recruited.
He added that his government would be responsible for providing at least one meal per day for the students.
According to him, this plan is in alignment with the progressive ideology the party aims to pursue.
The progressive ideology Tinubu noted includes addressing poverty through the provision of job opportunities for youths and quality education for all Nigerian children.
Tinubu further pledged to support the establishment of the National Institute of Progressive Studies by the APC, adding that the Institute has been saddled with the responsibility of conducting diligent research, educating all party members on the principles of democracy and good governance, and providing a distinct identity for the party.
”We will deliver it. I am committed to supporting a strong and ideologically determined democracy that is progressive, inclusive, and focused on eliminating poverty while providing quality education for our children,” he said.
He also urged the members of the party to partner and collaborate with other arms of government, stressing that it is essential if the execution of these ideas will be successful.
