Police Kill One, Arrest Three Other Robbers In Anambra

Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have arrested one 18-year-old Salisu Adamu for kidnapping his three-year-old cousin, Auwalu Aminu, in Danbatta, Kano State, News About Nigeria reports.

It was gathered that the 18-year-old suspect had kidnapped his three-year-old cousin and demanded a ransom of N1 million for her to be released.

The Kano state Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammed Usaini Gumel, stated that the case had been reported to the police command on December 19, 2023, by the father of the victim, Mallam Aminu Garba Danbatta, pleading with the officers to help rescue his son.

He noted that five days after the disappearance of the three-year-old, the suspect contacted the family with a hidden number, demanding that a ransom of N1 million be paid if they wanted their son to return to them without any hurt.

The police, however, moved swiftly, acting on the information gathered and discovered the hideout of Adamu, after which Adamu was arrested and Auwalu rescued in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.

Adamu, however, confessed to acting alone, without the help of any accomplice, and maintaining that he kidnapped his cousin because he was strained financially and needed financial help.

According to Adamu, the ransom was going to be used to settle the debts he accrued from a failed business venture, which was over N100,000, and then keep the rest for himself.

The father of the victim and uncle to the suspect, Danbatta, expressed his shock and disappointment at discovering that a family member was behind the abduction.

Expressing his gratitude to the police for their assistance in rescuing his son, Danbatta stated that the action of Adamu was a betrayal to him and his family.

Gumel, however, assured the people that a thorough investigation would be carried out, maintaining that Adamu would face legal consequences.
