Police Gives Reasons For Delay In Mohbad’s Death Probe

Unknown gunmen killed four people, including two policemen, while attacking the convoy of the erstwhile Anambra State political godfather, Chief Chris Uba, on Thursday, News About Nigeria reports.

The Public Relations Officer of Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this, stating that a manhunt has begun to apprehend those behind the attack.

He disclosed that two out of the four people who were killed during the attack at Uga Junction, Uba’s hometown, were police officers from the Enugu State Police Command.

He noted that the gang had dressed in military attire, disguising themselves as military operatives, and had become alarmed when they noticed that the two police officers were headed in their direction.

He further disclosed that the bandits had opened fire on the officers who had moved ahead of the convoy they were escorting to decongest traffic gridlock, adding that in a bid to avoid hurting motorists and passersby, the officers had reduced fire, causing the bandit to escape.

It was also gathered that the gunmen had tried to kidnap the politician but were not successful as they got intercepted by the police and Uba was able to escape because his car was bulletproof.

The state commissioner of police, Aderemi Adeoye, has, however, urged officials of the police command not to be disheartened by the loss of their colleagues but to draw inspiration from their bravery and redouble their efforts in ensuring that the criminals are brought to book.

He added that technology would be employed to track down the criminals who unleashed the attack on Police personnel.
