Four directors of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have been ordered to go on compulsory retirement, News About Nigeria reports.

This was disclosed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee of the Commission, Sam Olumekun, in a statement on Wednesday.

He noted that the retirement follows the circular that was issued on July 27, 2023, approving the implementation of the policy, which mandates all directors with eight years or more of service to retire from the public sector.

He, therefore, noted that per the directive, four of its directors will proceed on a terminal leave.

Olumekun said that two of the four directors are Heads of Departments, stationed at the National Headquarters, while the other two are deployed as Administrative Secretaries in the state offices of the Commission.

He, however, stated that the directive was not binding on the clinical officers in the medical cadre, maintaining that they are exempt from the directive as noted in the circular released on September 7, 2023.

The INEC commissioner, however, did not give the names of the affected directors and wished them the best as they retired from active service.

He also urged them to keep being good and responsible citizens of the country, adding that the long years of service that they have invested in the commission will not be forgotten.

Olumekun further reiterated the commitment of the Electoral Commission to serving the country with equity and fairness, adding that it would continue to live up to its good name.
