Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has mourned the passing of his Ondo state counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu, who died after a long battle with sickness.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Adamawa state governor expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late governor and the people of Ondo State.

The governor sent his condolences in a post he shared on his official X account on Wednesday.

His statement partly reads, “I extend my deepest condolences to the people of Ondo State on the passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN.”

While praying for the repose of the deceased, the governor stated that Akeredolu’s legacy will be remembered as he was a good politician who played his part for the good of Ondo and Nigeria at large.

News About Nigeria reports that the Ondo State government while confirming the demise of Akeredolu, revealed that the governor died on Wednesday in Germany after battling prostate cancer.

This was contained in a statement titled ‘It’s a sad day in Ondo State’, released by the state commissioner for information and orientation, Mrs. Bamidele Ademola-Olateju.

The Ondo State government also appreciated President Bola Tinubu for his consistent support for Governor Akeredolu during his illness.

The statement also revealed that the late governor’s family and the state government will, in the coming days, release further details regarding the funeral arrangements.

In the statement, the Commissioner for Information stated that the late Governor Akeredolu was an extraordinary leader whose unwavering dedication to the state and its people was both commendable and unparalleled.

She also noted that Akeredolu did not only serve as governor of the state but was a Christian who was devoted to God and was an advocate for the entire Southwest region and the nation.
