The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has approved the 2024 Appropriation Bill, totaling N199.9 billion, News About Nigeria reports.
During the legislative session on Wednesday in Lafia, the state capital, Speaker of the Assembly Danladi Jatau declared the budget’s successful passage after Governor Abdullahi Sule had presented it.
Once the governor signs the budget, according to Jatau, it will boost economic growth and promote Nasarawa State’s overall development.
He said, “A Bill for a law to authorise the issue out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the State (Appropriation) of the sum of N199,879,370,709.43 only for the services of Nasarawa State Government for the period of 12 months commencing from January 1, 2024, and ending 31st 31, 2024.”
The budget breakdown includes N117.1 billion for Recurrent Expenditure and N82.7 billion for Capital Expenditure, covering a 12-month period from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024.
Jatau thanked the Assembly members for their perseverance and commitment to the quick passage and emphasised cooperation and coordination with the government’s executive and judicial branches.
He urged the state government to ensure the full implementation of the budget upon receiving the governor’s assent.
“I want to appreciate you all for your efforts in ensuring the speedy passage of the bill. This shows a sign of unity and synergy with the executive and judicial arms of government.
“We will continue to work in synergy with the state government for the overall development of the state,” he said.
The Majority Leader of the House, Suleiman Azara, moved the motion for the bill’s passage, which was seconded by the Minority Leader, Luka Zhekaba.
The Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to prepare a clean copy of the bill for the governor’s assent.
