Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has revealed that he will be launching a peace initiative in the South East on December 29, 2023, News About Nigeria reports.
The speaker made this known during a courtesy visit from actors who hail from the South East in Abuja.
The actors pledged their support in ensuring that the Initiative, called the Peace in South East Project (PISE-P), an initiative of the national assembly members led by the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu is successful.
The initiative according to Kalu, is aimed at restoring peace in the region and resolving the issue of insecurity that has been plaguing the region for so long.
He noted that the effects of insecurity that have prevailed in the Southeast for so long have affected every facet of life in the region.
He further noted that the weekly sit-at-home that has been happening in the South East every Monday for the past months has led to the loss of up to N3.8 trillion for traders and N13 billion, from transportation, in addition to the small businesses crippled by daily losses due to the violence.
He therefore appealed to the actors to use their talents in propagating the gospel of peace and restoration in the southeast.
The actors led by Jim Iyke, promised to give the project their maximum support and ensure that an end is brought to the issue of insecurity in the South East.
Some of the actors present include Zack Orji, Yul Edochie, Destiny Etiko, Ekene Umenwa Obodo, Okechukwu Edwards Ukeje (Mr Raw), Benedict Johnson, Francis Duru, Noble Igwe, Tina Mbah and a host of others.
The peace initiative will be launched in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.
