President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stated that his administration will prioritise healthcare in the country, News About Nigeria reports.
The president made this commitment while unveiling Nigeria’s Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative and the signing of the Health Renewal Compact by federal, state, and development partners at the Old Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He noted that his promise of renewed hope to Nigerians also includes providing citizens of the country with both improved and quality healthcare, and he stated that with the support of all multilateral partners and agencies, he will ensure that good healthcare remains at the forefront of his administration.
The unveiling, which was themed ‘Health for All: Time for Action’, according to the president, was a call for all relevant stakeholders to reiterate their commitment to the noble pursuit of health for all, adding that the theme was an indicator that the goal of achieving quality healthcare for all should be faced with both urgency and determination.
Tinubu also said that quality healthcare remained a fundamental human right, and Nigeria’s commitment to achieving universal healthcare coverage is reflected in the unwavering dedication of his administration to uphold this right for every individual, young or old, in rural or urban areas.
While adding that health is not merely the absence of disease but also the embodiment of physical, mental, and social well-being, the president called for a recommitment to quality healthcare.
He reiterated his commitment to improving the physical infrastructure, equipment, and retraining of frontline health workers in 2024 and urged governors of the 36 states to partner with him to achieve this noble goal.
