On Tuesday, the Osun House of Assembly successfully passed a bill raising the retirement age of judges and other judicial officials from 65 to 70 years old, News About Nigeria reports.
Titled “Osun State High Court and Customary Court of Appeal Registrars, Secretary to the State Judicial Council, State Counsels in the Ministry of Justice, State Magistrates and District Customary Courts’ Presidents Retirement Age Bill, 2023,” the bill received approval during the plenary session held at the assembly complex in Osogbo after passing the third reading.
Speaker of the Assembly, Mr. Adewale Egbedun, thanked his colleagues for their work in conducting the 2024 budget presentation and defence by various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) in the state and announced that the final copy of the bill would be prepared and sent to Governor Sen. Ademola Adeleke for his assent.
Ninety MDAs took part in the budget defence exercise over the course of eleven days, testifying before the House Committee on Budget and Appropriations, which is presided over by Mr. Saheed Fatunmise.
Osun Central Education District Offices, Osun East, Osun West, and the Osun Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) were the final group of MDAs to testify before the committee on Monday.
Additionally, the Osun Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Osun Tourism Board, and Osun Council for Arts and Culture were among the agencies completing their budget defense presentations.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Government has commenced an investigation into the poisoning of about 18 pupils of James Primary School B, Osogbo following the consumption of a midday meal supplied by the state’s free school feeding programme, which got them hospitalised.
