The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended two suspects, Hassan Ismaila and Mohammed Sani, in connection with the death of their relative, Sani, who reportedly died of starvation, News About Nigeria reports.
Acting Commissioner of Police, Shettima Mohammed, shared the details during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Lafia on Monday.
According to Mohammed, the suspects allegedly tied the hands and legs of the deceased, Sani, accusing him of witchcraft.
They kept him confined in a room for an extended period until he succumbed to starvation.
The incident occurred on November 30, 2023, in Agyaragu Tofa. The police, acting on credible information, swiftly arrested the duo and are actively pursuing additional suspects involved in the heinous act.
Acting CP Mohammed expressed the commitment of the police to bring all those responsible for the act to justice.
The suspects, Hassan Ismaila and Mohammed Sani, are currently in custody as investigations continue.
In another case, the police paraded one Habu Yusuf for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area.
The suspect, who had previously assaulted two other young girls, was apprehended through the dedicated efforts of police officers.
Acting CP Mohammed outlined the circumstances of the case, stating that a complaint was filed by Justina Samuel, who discovered her five-year-old daughter walking abnormally upon returning from the market.
The child revealed that she had been sexually molested by Habu Yusuf, a 21-year-old resident of Egbukumu Area, Nasarawa Eggon.
The suspect was promptly tracked down and arrested.
Preliminary investigations uncovered that Habu Yusuf had previously sexually assaulted two children belonging to his elder brother, aged eight and ten.
The suspect has confessed to the crimes, and the police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
