The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has expressed his sympathy to the family of Mr Taiwo Oyekanmi, the late Director of Finance and Accounts in the office of the Governor, who was killed on Wednesday by suspected armed robbers in Abeokuta, the state capital.

In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Lekan Adeniran, the Governor stated that the untimely death of Oyekanmi has left him in shock and highly devastated.

The statement reads, “I was devastated and extremely shocked upon receiving news of the cold-blooded murder of Oyekanmi at the hands of criminal elements and enemies of our state.”

News About Nigeria reports that unknown gunmen, suspected to be armed robbers, shot dead Oyekanmi on Wednesday afternoon when he was coming back from the bank where he went to make withdrawals in a bullion van.

Oyekanmi, who was reportedly gunned down on top of the NNPC Bridge, was rushed to the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, where he was pronounced dead.

Speaking on the tragic death of Oyekanmi, the governor described the incident as a rude shock to him.

The Governor, who also described Oyekanmi’s death as a colossal loss for his administration, noted that the deceased was a dedicated, truthful, and diligent official who would be sorely missed by his relatives, colleagues, and the government he served until death.

Abiodun, who also prayed for the repose of Oyekanmi’s soul, prayed that God would give his family the fortitude to bear the loss and would also protect them.

The governor directed all security agencies in the State to embark on an investigation to bring the perpetrators to book so that they can face the full wrath of the law.

He also assured all workers and residents of the state of their safety, noting that such a bizarre incident would never happen again.

Also, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, led a government delegation to the deceased’s house on Wednesday evening to commiserate with his family.
