The Brigade Commander of the 23 Armored Brigade in Yola, Adamawa State, Brig. Gen. Gambo Mohammed has provided insight into the recent invasion of the Adamawa Police Command Headquarters by soldiers.

According to Gen. Gambo, the incident stemmed from a clash between policemen and soldiers after a soldier was shot and injured by a police officer at a checkpoint.

News About Nigeria gathered that the affected soldier, wounded in the leg at Target Junction, was promptly taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Yola for medical attention.

Subsequently, tensions escalated between the two security agencies, leading to a reported fatality on the police side.

Allegedly, a group of soldiers later stormed the Police Command Headquarters around 11 pm, resulting in a heavy exchange of gunfire.

The soldiers eventually withdrew, causing panic among residents who initially feared a Boko Haram attack.

Commissioner of Police in Adamawa, Mr Afolabi Babatola, confirmed the incident, stating that Police Inspector Jacob Daniel lost his life during the exchange of gunfire.

In response, Babatola warned against attacks on security officers in the line of duty, emphasising that such conflicts would be rigorously addressed according to existing laws.

The Commissioner called for calm and assured the public that both security agencies were taking legal measures to address the situation.

The CP also ordered an “immediate investigation into the matter with a view to ensuring peace and justice,” according to a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, in a tweet shared by the state police command on X (formerly Twitter).
