The Appeal Court, on Wednesday, admitted that there was a clerical error in the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Kano State judgement.
The clarification was made by the Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Umar Bangari, in a statement where he explained that there was no contradiction in the court’s judgment on the Kano State governorship election.
He further noted that the clerical error on the CTC does not in any way invalidate or change the findings and conclusion of the court on the matter.
The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja, on Friday, upheld the judgement of the Kano state governorship election petition tribunal, which sacked Abba Yusuf, candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), as the governor.
News About Nigeria reported that following the release of the CTC by the Appeal Court, the NNPP raised the alarm that the certified true copy of the judgment appeared to be contradictory to the pronouncement of the court.
Bangari further explained that according to the code of conduct of the court, such clerical errors can be corrected.
He further explained that Order 23 Rule 4 of the Court of Appeal’s handbook empowers the court to correct any clerical error once detected by the court or any of the parties in the matter, insisting that the court would ensure the right thing is done in this case.
He also called on the people of the state to remain calm, assuring them that the clerical error would be rectified once parties in the matter file formal applications to that effect.
