The Director General of the Nigerian Employers Consultative Association, NECA, Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, has revealed that the Industrial Training Find, ITF is set to resolve the issue of unemployment in the country, News About Nigeria reports.
Oyerinde, who disclosed this at the NECA-ITF dialogue forum and trainees’ award held in Abuja on Thursday, noted that the programme is to ensure that entrepreneurs are armed with over 30 skill sets.
He further revealed that the notion that there were no jobs in the country was false, maintaining that a lot of jobs were available but that prospective employees lacked the high-quality skills required to get the jobs.
Oyerinde emphasized the need to encourage technical and vocational skills development as this will ensure growth and development in the country while setting the country on par with other developed nations.
He revealed that over a thousand people have been equipped with skills to become successful entrepreneurs, including ICT and Cloud Computing.
Similarly, the Director General of the Industrial Training Fund, Oluwatoyin Ogun, in her address, noted that in a bid to lower the number of unskilled persons, the fund has trained over 54,000 technicians in its Skills Development Project and that these individuals have been employed in corporate organisations while others have gone ahead to become entrepreneurs in their chosen fields.
According to her, the main objective of the organization was to promote the availability of manpower with the appropriate technical and vocational skills that were required to meet the identified needs of industries and the Nigerian economy.
