The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has revealed that some suspects allegedly involved in the assault of the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, have been apprehended.

Ribadu made this statement in a release on Wednesday by the Head of the Strategic Communication Office of the National Security Adviser, Zakari Mijinyawa.

He explained that investigations have already commenced to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Expressing concern over the ongoing industrial action by the Trade Union Congress and Nigeria Labour Congress, the NSA stated that an investigation had been initiated into the matter.

Ribadu also condemned the attack on Ajaero, emphasizing that it goes against the rule of law and the principles of freedom of association and expression subscribed to by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The statement highlighted that upon learning about the assault on the NLC President in Owerri, the Imo State Capital, the NSA immediately took action to apprehend the perpetrators.

The NSA urged the Organized Labour, led by the NLC, to call off the nationwide strike, as it is adversely affecting the livelihood of ordinary Nigerians and the nation’s economy at large.

Furthermore, the NSA encouraged the striking unions to engage in a dialogue process with the Federal Government to resolve the strike.

News About Nigeria reported that the NLC President was brutalised in Imo state while protesting the non-payment of workers and pensioners in the state for over 44 months.

The ongoing nationwide strike, according to NLC,  is also to kick against the government’s “anti-poor people’s policies” affecting Nigerian workers.
