The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has responded to widespread falsified Kogi State election results.

On Saturday morning, YIAGA Africa, a civil society group, raised the alarm over the finding of election results from a polling unit in Kogi before the completion of the exercise.

Polling Unit 004, Eni Ward, Ogori/Mangogo, Kogi State, was alleged to have produced the results.

Yiaga Africa made this assertion in a post on X under the username @YIAGA.

It requested that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) investigate the results.

News About Nigeria reports that in one of the falsified results, AA received one vote, ADC received two votes, APC received 200 votes, while the PDP and SDP each received two votes.

In another, the APC received 530 votes, while the PDP received none.

The electoral umpires stated in a statement via X that the matter is serious and that top officials assigned to Kogi State are examining the event.

“Our attention has been drawn to a report that filled result sheets were discovered in some polling units in Kogi State.

“The Commission takes this matter seriously.

“Our senior officials in the field are currently investigating the incident(s).” The Commission will announce its judgement as soon as possible”, the statement on X read.

Despite evidence of extensive violence in Kogi’s elections, Governor Yahaya Bello has stated that the state’s tumultuous history of electoral violence is a media fabrication.

After voting at his polling unit (PU) 011, Agassa, Okene LGA on Saturday, Governor Bello informed journalists that “the issue of electoral violence in Kogi state is a media creation of those who are not on the ground in Kogi state.”
