Residents of Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo States have been reassured of their safety and security before, during, and following the governorship elections that are set for Saturday, November 11, 2023, by National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu.
In a statement released on Friday, the National Security Agency (NSA) guaranteed that sufficient security measures had been implemented to ensure the protection of voters and local inhabitants.
News About Nigeria reports that Nuhu Ribadu tasked every security officer sent to the election to carry out their duties with the highest professionalism.
In addition, he advised all political contenders, parties, participants, and stakeholders to abstain from violence.
The following is the text of Ribadu’s statement, which was approved by Zakari U. Mijinyawa, Head of Strategic Communication at the Office of the National Security Advisor:
Nuhu Ribadu, the national security adviser, give the citizens of Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states assurances on security readiness for tomorrow’s (Saturday) off-cycle elections.
He went ahead to caution against political players who plan on using violence to achieve favourable results and demanded that security forces follow professional ethics when carrying out their duties.
Nuhu Ribadu also pointed out that the National Security Agency (NSA) guarantees that security services have taken the necessary steps following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s instruction to ensure the safety, security, and transparency of the Saturday, November 11, 2023 elections.
The National Security Agency (NSA), as the Co-Chair of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, has directed all law enforcement, intelligence, and security personnel assigned to election security responsibilities to behave honourably.
“The Federal Government has mobilised all necessary resources for the smooth conduct of the elections and urged all election managers to strictly follow the President’s instructions. A monitoring mechanism has been formed, with monitors deployed in the field to gather evidence of violence and anomalies.
“The NSA vows that anyone found to have disrupted the conduct of elections or abused his authority will face severe consequences.
“Voters in the three states are to come out en masse to exercise their franchise and are assured of adequate protection”, the statement read in part.
