The International Christian Concern, ICC, has ranked Nigeria as one of the worst persecutors of Christians.

News About Nigeria gathered that this was contained in its 2023 report, noting that Nigeria might be the most perilous place for Christians worldwide.

According to the report, “Nigeria is arguably the most dangerous place to be a Christian in the world today”.

The International Christian Concern, ICC, also revealed that no less than 55 attacks happened in the country from March to July, resulting in the death of at least 549 Christians.

It further revealed that a Catholic Seminary was attacked and torched, a seminarian killed in Kaduna state, and over 20 people massacred in a village in Plateau State by radical militants in August.

The report further noted that a large part of the prosecution of Christians in Nigeria is carried out by terrorist groups such as Boko Haram, which has been responsible for more than 38,000 deaths over the past 12 years, and the enforcement of Sharia law in 12 northern states.

The report also disclosed that apart from Nigeria, nine other countries, including North Korea, India, Iran, China, Pakistan, Eritrea, Algeria, Indonesia, and Azerbaijan, are also hostile and oppressive towards Christians.

The report pointed out the need for international attention and action to address the widespread persecution of Christians in Nigeria and other listed nations.

Reacting to the report, The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN and the Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, yesterday called for caution in addressing the report.

Ibrahim Kufena, the Secretary of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, in Kaduna State, however, said it was not enough for the ICC to make such a statement against Nigeria and called on the organization to provide instances and the locations where such alleged persecutions were made.
