The Joint Security Operation in Kogi State has killed three alleged political thugs in Anyigba, Kogi State’s Eastern Senatorial District, only four days before the governorship election.

SP William Ovye Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kogi State, asserted this in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Aya, the security personnel obtained two AK47 guns from the alleged assailants.

While noting that the operation was carried out by officers from the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Security, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on a building where political parties were housing political thugs, Aya added that two members of the team were shot and seven suspects were arrested.

“During the Cordon and Search Operation, the Team, even after identifying themselves, came under serious gunfire, and in response, three of the political thugs were gunned down and two AK47 rifles recovered, while two members of the team sustained gunshot injuries and seven suspects were arrested,” the statement read in part.

The statement further pointed out that to make for a peaceful election in the state, raids on suspected criminals/thugs’ hideouts will be sustained to deny thugs and criminals safe havens to operate, and the operation will be maintained until after the election.

News About Nigeria gathered that alleged political thugs from the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) stormed the home of Sheikh Ibrahim Jibrin, Director-General of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Campaign Council, in Anyigba, Kogi State, earlier today.

One police officer and four other people were killed in the incident.
