Lagos Governor Pledges Solidarity With Workers On Increment Of Salary

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led Lagos State government has re-introduced a 25 per cent subsidy on government-controlled transportation, just a few days after it put a stop to the 50 per cent subsidy.

Announcing the development in a tweet on Monday, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Unit (LAMATA) explained that the decision to reintroduce a 25 per cent subsidy followed pleas from Lagosians.

The statement by LAMATA revealed that the new subsidy will be effective today, Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

“Responding to calls for the reinstatement of the 50% rebate on fare for regulated bus and rail transport, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed the implementation of 25% discount beginning from Tuesday, November 7, 2023,” the statement by LAMATA read.

News About Nigeria recalls that the Governor Sanwo-Olu-led government over the weekend eliminated subsidy for state-controlled transport. The rebate, which was introduced in August, was geared towards helping Nigerians to survive the hardship occasioned by President Bola Tinubu’s decision to remove fuel subsidy.

You will recall that Tinubu, on assumption of office, announced the immediate removal of the fuel subsidy. The decision triggered an outrageous rise in the pump price of fuel, going up from about N189 per litre to over N600 per litre.

However, Tinubu had kicked off palliative measures, mandating state governors to ensure that they help the Nigerian masses pull through the difficulties suffered as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy.

Despite Tinubu’s efforts, Nigerians are still suffering the heartfelt impact of fuel subsidy removal. However, unconfirmed reports have detailed that President Tinubu was planning to return partial subsidy to prevent the pump price of fuel from rising further.
