A Yaba Magistrate Court in Lagos State has granted bail to singer Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, and Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, known as Sam Larry.

The bail was set at N20 million each, with three responsible sureties required for both defendants.

In addition to the financial conditions, the magistrate overseeing the case, Adeola Olatunbosun, ordered the duo to surrender their international passports.

They are also obligated to make weekly appearances at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as part of their bail conditions.

However, the magistrate issued a unique warning, cautioning that any attempts to contact her directly would be recorded and potentially disclosed during open court proceedings.

Naira Marley and Sam Larry were arrested upon their return to Nigeria after being linked to the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.

Videos circulated on social media depicting Sam Larry physically assaulting Mohbad, while other videos suggested that individuals under the alleged orders of Naira Marley were involved in attacking the late rapper.

News About Nigeria reported that before their bail, Naira Marley and Sam Larry filed a fundamental rights suit to contest their continued detention in connection with the death of Mohbad.

Named as defendants in the suit filed before the Federal High Court in Lagos are the police and Lagos magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun, who ordered their remand in police custody for 21 days.

In the suit filed through their lawyer, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), Naira Marley and Sam Larry each demand N20 million in damages from the defendants.

They urged the court to declare that their continued detention ‘at the Homicide Section of the Lagos State Police Command, Panti, Yaba, Lagos State since October 4, 2023,’ violated their human rights.

They prayed for the court to order the police to release them from custody, as their 21 days had elapsed.
