The Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has promised to put an end to kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
News About Nigeria gathered that this follows the upsurge in cases of high-profile abductions in Lagos, among other violent crimes. The Lagos State Command, in this light, declared war against kidnappers and others perpetrating violent crimes in the state.
According to the police, the daredevil kidnappers target wealthy businessmen in the hospitality industry residing mostly at the Ago Palace Way, Lagos.
It revealed that victims are forced to part with millions of money in both local and foreign currencies to secure their release while ensuring their victims do not make their ordeals public or involve the police with threats of revisiting them.
Unfortunately, the kidnappers are now spreading their operations to other parts of the state, the police said.
Speaking on the situation, the state police spokesman, Benjamin Hyndeyin, stated, “Crime, generally, in Lagos is being fought by the Lagos State Police Command with all the seriousness it deserves, and the police ensure that their statistics are revisited at the end of every month.” He noted that there has been a record decrease in crime.
He also assured the people of Lagos that they are aware of the reports of crime and that the command is doing its best to study crime trends and crime patterns, ensuring that crime remains low, as it has always been in Lagos because, according to him, “we want to continue to enjoy that status as one of the safest states in the country.”
He further stated that the Police command is making the best and most judicious use of its resources, maintaining that whatever the Police command does is largely dependent on the resources available.
“The commanders have been charged, especially in Okota, with the task of bringing kidnapping and other violent crimes down to zero. The DPO covering that axis and others have also been tasked to review their operational strategies to ensure that their men are alert 24/7 with raiding to ensure that it does not raise its ugly head again,” he said.
Finally, he urged the people of Lagos to have faith in the police and charged them to “say something if they see something.
