Four governors of South-West states met with their Ondo State counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu, on Tuesday at his private residence in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

The visiting governors were Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), and Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti).

Their visit was to check on Akeredolu, who has been staying at his Ibadan residence since his return to Nigeria from a three-month medical leave in Germany on September 7, 2023.

Akeredolu, who serves as the Chairman of the Southwest Governors’ Forum, expressed his appreciation to the governors for their solidarity and continued collaboration among the Southwest states.

According to Oyo State Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde, the Forum is praying for Governor Akeredolu, and he has the support of all the governors in the region.

It is worth noting that Akeredolu has remained in Ibadan since his return from his medical trip to Germany. The governor had been flown to Germany for medical attention due to an undisclosed ailment.

News About Nigeria has also gathered that the continued absence of the Ondo State Governor from the state and his seclusion from the public has prompted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and some civil society groups to raise alarm and call for his return to his office or resignation.

They have also urged the governor to delegate his authority to the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, if he is not yet strong enough for the job to ensure that the state does not continue to lack leadership presence while he focuses on his recovery.
